Welcome, what's all wrong with it?
1) The heater/blower only works on the two highest settings. Gonna start by replacing the resistor and go from there.
2) The radio starts cutting out with a loud pop after an hour or so of driving. No clue what to do with that.
3) The front left bearing and/or brake rotor need replacing. There's a woom woom sound when accelerating around 40kph and cyclicly bouncy braking, so possibly warped rotor(s) and worn bearing.
4) There's plenty of squeaking in the suspension, possibly a dying strut in the front left.
5) Lots of rust bubbles starting up on the hood, rusting around the rear fender and bumper where panels meet, and the whole bottom edge of the trunk is flaking rust. I'm in Atlantic Canada so that's normal once a car's around 10 years old.
6) Alternator is starting to make grinding noises.
7) Needs a new oxygen sensor in the uptake.
8) Needs a new front left tire for summer, as the one that came with it is unevenly worn. It did come with a second set of rims, though, which is handy.
9) Airbag light comes up on the dash, so I need to figure out which cables under the seats to clean up and reconnect. Could also possibly be the sensors at the front of the car.

Possibly more that I'm just not remembering. I only paid $3000 for it, which isn't too bad considering we needed a car right away, it has a new catalytic converter, and the transmission was replaced recently.

Welcome to the forum. You run with the Wisconsin sports car club for the ice racing? Where do you race the vintage Fiesta? I'm trying to get our ice racing club restarted here in Michigan. It's very difficult. The window of opportunity is smaller for our season and our membership is spread out over the whole state.
When I was involved in Improved touring club racing and doing ice racing with MIRA was hands down, the most fun times I ever had, so far. Ice racing is the best vehicle control learning experience and flat out cheap thrills autosport on earth. It's so much fun I can't believe that it isn't taxed heavily!

Agreed! Ice racing really levels up your skill fast, and yeah its tough mother nature is fickle the last couple seasons but I did do it with the Central Wisconsin Sports Car Club. For road racing I run with the Midwestern Council of Sports car clubs https://www.mcscc.org/ we are similar to SCCA but smaller.

Oh yeah. I have been in SCCA off and on for 30 years. But always had the most seat time and fun in the smaller groups!
I hope to help with getting our Ice Racing club back to a five weekend schedule (January through February) and enjoying the thrill of driving on a low friction surface as quickly as possible.
Question. Do you have a Quaife transaxle in your ITD Fiesta? I drove a Fiesta I was considering the purchase of from a fellow club member many years ago. That upgrade, in concert with the much tweeked induction setup transformed that little car!

Yeah Council has been around a little longer than SCCA but it has always maintained a friendlier smaller atmosphere and I love it. I don't the Quaife in the car right now the previous owner had it and the transmission broke, we do have a couple of them and another spare trans im going to be building soon. I've been learning a lot about them lately and trying to gather spare parts as they are becoming harder to come by. But yeah they are a blast to dive and with our new ST1 class im in I can mod it some, it is already way faster with a set of wilwood brakes up front.

When my friend and I were club racing an ITB Mustang at Waterford Hills in the mid 1990's there was a large class of Improved touring Fiesta's running. They were impressively quick. And then in the winter I raced against about six to eight of them in MIRA! I found out that those guy's were running Mahle 10:1 forged pistons and better rods. They were very hard to get by on clean ice!
We had a 1.6 Escort that was well prepared. Welded diff, Blizzak tires, PVC plastic sheeting ( like those roll up tobaggans kids use) on the underbelly to help cut the drag of heavy snow. It was scary fast for a non studded tire car.
Then we put together a Ford Taurus SHO. We welded a cage into that one and ran in the studded tire class. It would throw up a thirty foot roostertail of ice chips at speed. It was an outstanding car inspite of it's size.
I wish I could find better pics of it. I found one of it about mid pack , early in a race. They always inverted the field to keep it interesting. Our car is the white with dark tribal stripes on it and a big rear wing.
The last image of the Neon with the sprint car wing was fairly typical of the effort our group was capable of in the pursuit of more grip!

We also had a blast with the ITB Mustang we built. It was more fun than the Showroom stock C effort we did in the early 2000's.
I really want to do the club racing again for three years. Any longer than that and I will be too old. But, ice racing is something that I think could be fun, safe and inexpensive well into my sixties!

Awesome, I would love to find a US spec Mk1, seems they have all disappeared. I had an 85 Escort, but had to let it go. Still trying to find another.

Are you familiar with Waterford Bicycles?

The original Fiesta is a vintage vehicle now. I had several of the early Escort 3 doors. The Escort driving dynamics made the original Fiesta seem like a genuine sportscar. My father bought a new Fiesta right after Ford introduced the Escort in October, 1980. He said that the new Escort had a nicer interior. But, it drove like half the suspension bolts were loose compared to the Fiesta.
I preferred the mid 83 to 85 Escort 3 doors with the 5 speed and minimum options. Those cars made a good ice racing car for a beginner, with some modifications.

Mine was an 85, pre 1/2 year facelift model. I prefer the 84+ dashboard to the ugly 81-83 dash. My dream would be to fit that Escort with a ZX2 Zetec and 5-speed, Focus Mk1 suspension and brakes.

I hear ya. I did like that the Escort with the updated dash generally had a tachometer, unless it was the Pony model. The five speed stick was a huge improvement over the 4 speed. I really liked the independent rear suspension. It was really nice to drive when the ice was rough. For a cheap car, it was very durable. I also had a 87 Escort GT that was a bit heavier but had more power and better gearing. I didn't get to use it much because the weather let us down. I had to cut it up last year. Kept the important stuff, but no room for a car without a purpose. I could put another one together with the parts I have.

Mine was an "L" model. Don't think the pony was around yet. 4 speed, manual steering, manual brakes. Speed and gas gauge only.

1978 Fiesta
Hello! Thank you for allowing me to join.
I just inherited a 1978 Fiesta - the VIN number begins with GCFBTA. It is pretty much a basket case but it looks like there are some spare body parts and even a spare engine. I know very little of it's background but I know that there is a group of passionate folks out there who like these cars. I figured before I sold it for scrap, I'd offer it up to anyone who is interested.
I (and the car) are just outside of Denver.

Do you have pictures of this thing? Oh, and a title?
