We notice that when driving on low engine load between 40 and 80k/hr the rpm will slightly surge or hunt. This is actually my sons first car bought we bought at auction so no warranty to go on. But has done this from day one. The auction place had to jump start the car as battery was dead. after clearing lights this rpm surge has still remained. One time driving we noticed that while going through a round about the car shuttered ever so slightly as if we had driven on road bumps. My mechanic was suggesting EGR but otherwise injectors. When the car runs at 100 it will cruise nicely, no surge. It starts always first time, and idles well, has never stopped.

We have since had the Manifold and egr de-sooted and cleaned, they were very clogged. Even had the EGR blanked. The MAF connection is ok.

When we picked car up from local mechanic yesterday, it straight away did the same; low load rpm surges. this time however the traction control light came on then engine light. We pulled over as we noticed we were stuck in 1st. put car in park and then drive, the transmission did made a clunk noise and still could only get 1st gear, no matter what we did. If I was in a manual I would say the clutch had gone by the way it was taking off and trying to grab the gear taking off from a stop position. BUT this could simply be 'limp mode'. never had that before. Limped it back to mechanics...….

Who in the Croydon/Ringwood area would be recommended to see, have suggested to mechanic and son that it needs to now go to auto specialist guy to check out transmission and rule that out just in case its torque convertor or solenoids, then once that is cleared to a diesel specialist to check that the injectors are ok before we just swap them out.

Appreciate assistance

Did you scan the engine for error codes? What about o2 sensors, have you replaced them?
We have scanned several times, no codes come up. scanned with both mechanic tool and my bluedriver obd. we just haven't scanned yesterday after limping back, the mechanic was closing up so we decided just to lock it up over the weekend. we havent replaced o2 sensors. if it was o2 sensors would it not them being faulting all the time, the rpm's only surges in specific load at low speeds.
